The blacksmith shop in Nove Hrady is a good example of a traditional smithy. It was established in 1719 by blacksmith Ferdinand Grössinger and passed on over several generations from father to son.

Later the building was used only as living place. The last inhabitant was the Czech painter Vadislav Karba. His works are clearly inspired by the Novohradska landscape. In the year 2000, the town of Nove Hrady bought the derelict building. With the help of EU funds, the premises were completely renovated. The wooden roof construction was repaired and the destroyed parts replaced. The Eternit roof was removed and replaced by the with the original more corresponding wooden shingles. New parts were only sparsely used. In those places where it was unavoidable, new parts were made that came as came as close as possible to the originally used parts. Good examples of this are the three stone-build wood ovens.

Projekt Krize

After the renovation was completed, the Rozmberk Society in cooperation with blacksmith Daniel Cerny leased the premises as part of their cultural heritage preservation activities. Our aim is to keep the smithy active as a workshop using traditional crafts.  Other activities include the already traditional Easter and Mikulas festivities, blacksmith meetings and workshops, exhibitions, and other activities.
