Trail "People and their Landscape"
Looking from the blacksmith workshop direction to the town centre, at your left you see the entrance to the premises of the company Motor Jikov. Originally, between the blacksmith workshop and the former brewery was a small path winding down towards Udoli. Here stood also the house # 38, which was named after its owner and his profession „At Weaver Niemetz’“.
Opposite the blacksmith, in the garden of # 109, is situated the small baroque chapel of St. Johannes of Nepomuk. The rear of this chapel is directly connected to the wall of the house built by Andreas Jakoubek in 1786 in the garden of the neighbouring house # 41 (from 1670). On the other side of the street, between the former # 29 (now # 233) and # 30 (now the school) used to be a storehouse, which was established in 1635. In 1836, Karl Teichl (later also author of local history) purchased the premises. At the beginning of the 20th century, the building was still in use as storehouse.
Today the original storehouse is divided into three houses. The middle part now houses the fire depot; seat of the local Fire Brigade Association. Established in 1874, the Association is the oldest in the district of Ceske Budejovice! It rapidly became an important part of the town community, also organizing theatre plays and other events. The Association and its members gave presence in full uniform at all mayor town events and religious holidays, in particular on the name day of Holy St. Florian, guardian of fire-fighters. Even today, the Association and its fire-fighters still form an integrated part of the town of Nove Hrady.
